The 1% Who Own 76% of Polymarket
Prediction markets are supposed to aggregate the wisdom of crowds. On Polymarket, most of the profit is aggregated into a remarkably small crowd.
The concentration
When you rank every wallet by realized profit and walk down the list, the curve falls off a cliff almost immediately. A tiny fraction of accounts captures the overwhelming majority of the gains.
This is not unique to Polymarket — it mirrors what we see in retail trading generally — but the markets here are public, settled, and fully auditable, which makes the concentration unusually easy to measure.
Who are they?
They are not one type of trader. In our discovery data they cluster into a few recognizable shapes:
- Specialists — deep in a single category (politics, sports, crypto), rarely straying outside it, with high hit rates where they have an information edge.
- Makers — providing liquidity and earning the spread plus rebates, the pattern the academic literature keeps finding at the top.
- Event-driven sharps — dormant until a specific catalyst, then sizing up fast and exiting on resolution.
What unites them
The common thread is price discipline, not bankroll. They wait for a number they like and pass on everything else. That is why our scoring leans on value-weighted excess hit rate rather than profit — it surfaces this behavior directly.
“The edge isn't trading more. It's refusing almost every price until the right one shows up.
”
Why it matters if you're not in the 1%
Two reasons.
First, as a signal. If a cluster of historically sharp wallets quietly starts buying one side of a market, that is information — the entire premise of following smart money. WalletRadar exists to make that observable in real time.
Second, as a warning. If you are routinely taking the other side of these trades, the concentration chart is a picture of where your money is going. The honest move is to either bring an edge of your own or accept that you are paying for entertainment.
| You are… | The 76% is… |
|---|---|
| Following smart wallets | A watchlist |
| Trading against them blind | A leak |
How we surface it
We watch the wallets that earn this concentration, score them on resolved trades with published confidence intervals, and alert on their live activity. No insider claims, no PnL theater — just the wallets that keep paying prices lower than the truth, made legible.
